Just a note: if you ...
Just a note: if you use the vacuum hose flat, without the crevice tool, you? will get way better suction. This is the best frugal tip I've seen so far. Excellent information! And using bags of sugar as filler to maximize storage space is fairly brilliant as well. :) TFS!

It's spelled Tilia. ...
It's spelled Tilia. I bought the jar attachments from a website called Goodmans. I bought the bags from a website called Sorbent Systems. I can vacuum seal mylar bags with my little vacuum sealer but not the big one. The big one - a Foodsaver only uses special channel type bags. The little one will vacuum seal any type of bag that will hold? a vacuum.

I've Googled 'Talia ...
I've Googled 'Talia' and can't find anything. Am I spelling it incorrectly? Also, where did you find your vacuum sealer bags so inexpensively? And, one more question:? Can you vacuum seal Mylar bags? Your videos are fantastic! The very best on Youtube. Thank you so much.

Yes, a vacuum ...
Yes, a vacuum cleaner will give you just as good a seal as the foodsaver does. The strength of the seal depends on the amount of time you hold the vacuum cleaner hose on it. If you put it there briefly, you'd get a weak seal, if you held it? there a little longer, you'd get a stronger seal, etc. You can tell how strong the seal is when you remove the lid. You'll feel resistance and hear a wooshing sound.

Very many? thanks ...
Very many? thanks for your reply, will purchase a widemouthed one now. Another question, does the vacuum cleaner method suck down the seals as far as the foodsaver vacuum does? Cheers.

I? measured one of ...
I? measured one of my wide mouthed jars and it's the same as yours, 3 and 5/16ths of an inch. The jar attachments are great.

Hi there. Wish to ...
Hi there. Wish to know the diameter of your large jar seals, we are in New Zealand so not sure if ours are the same or not. Ours are 8.5cm or 3 and 5/16ths of an inch. Need to know before I purchase one from amazon.com. Love your videos, finding them very? handy and looking forward to your reply. Shonz1

8 cents a bag? 100 ...
8 cents a bag? 100 bags for $8 ? Here I thought I was getting a? decent prcie. I have a foodsaver sealer, but the bags are sold by a company that sells Weston sealers. I tried them on my foodsaver and they worked fine. 100 quart size bags for 19.99 plus shipping, but I live close to this company and can picked them up and save the shipping cost. I've never seen them at 8 cents a bag.

People are using ...
People are using the buckets as protection from mice and the mylar bags in them are a means to vacuum seal 5 gal. worth of food at one time. I haven't been doing it that way b/c I don't think I'll use up 5 gal. of food before it goes bad.? I've been vac sealing in quart sized bags and storing them in big plastic totes or buckets. Since using the separate bags wastes space inside the totes/buckets, the void can be filled with sugar which doesn't need to be vac sealed.

Do you think mylar ...
Do you think mylar bags are a must when packing vacuum food (bags) for long storage? Wedo have food grade buckets, but I like those long plastic storage containers for clothes, etc, that can fit under your bed.? I thought I could layer them on top of each other in the basement. They would be in a deep cupboard with no light. As for the buckets, they take up alot of room, but would use them if I have to.

I don't use the ...
I don't use the oxygen absorbers and I haven't had any problems.?

Isn't that nifty? I ...
Isn't that nifty? I recently got a dehydrator and have been usung it daily. I love it! question...Since I vacuum the jars and the bags with the foodsaver vacuum, do I still need to add an oxygen absorber in the both? My hubby says its getting expensive with the jars, bags, etc. But I tell him it will pay off. He enjoys peeling the apples with our new apple? peeler. I hope I do not have to take every apart to add an oxygen absorber now. What do you think?

Okay, I'm going to ...
Okay, I'm going to their website and looking. This could save me? a lot of $ with as much as I dehydrate/freeze and seal up stuff. Thanks for the info! LOVE your videos.

That little vacuum ...
That little vacuum sealer is designed differently from the Foodsaver. It will use any? bag that will hold a vacuum. I bought it from a website called Sorbent Systems. They weren't allowed to sell channel type bags when I bought the little one because of patent issues with Foodsaver. They are now selling channel bags at a pretty good price too. I bought 3 mil quart bags (not channel bags) from them and 2 years later they are still holding seals.

What kind of bags ...
What kind of bags are you using? I thought that all of the home vacuum sealers had to use the bags with channels. That is the way they work. I've been told that the bags you buy in the store are not heavy duty enough for long term storage. I use bags I buy locally? but you are right - expensive! I have also ordered rolls of bags that are the 4mm thickness. I really can't tell much difference. Would love to have a less expensive source for bags!

nice ?
nice ?

I bought the little ...
I bought the little vacuum sealer and bags on a website called Sorbent Systems. Its been a while since I ordered from them and I just checked their website and found they are now selling channel type bags that will fit my larger vacuum sealer. The bags would still cost twice as much as the ones for? the little machine but it beats what I was paying for the bags locally.

Well...I learn ...
Well...I learn something new every day! Thank you for sharing the vacuum trick. I had no idea this? could be done without the Foodsaver machine. Good to know!

Super Cool! What? ...
Super Cool! What? brand is your favorite sealer and where did you purchase the bags?

LOL, I figured out ...
LOL, I figured out a way to do it without the jar? attachment too but I don't like doing it. It involves a coffee can and vacuum cleaner. My mind's always working, lol.

Oh no, you didn't! ...
Oh no, you didn't! I can't believe I just saw you suck the air out of that jar with a vacuum cleaner. LOL I'd wouldn't have thought it possible. I have a Food Saver and the canning jar attachments, but it's good to know I could draw a vacuum on it? another way. Wonderful!
